How to do a Bucket Test

Not sure if your pool is leaking? This simple test will help you to determine if you need our services. Call us with the results of your bucket test if you have any questions or if you need an appointment.

CAUTION: BUCKETS ARE A POSSIBLE DROWNING HAZARD FOR TODDLERS. LOCK YOUR POOL GATE DURING THIS TEST!

  1. Begin with a 5-gallon bucket and fill it with water 2"-3" from top. Place on the first or second step in the pool or spa. If necessary, anchor the bucket by placing a rock inside it.
  2. When the water in the bucket and pool settles, mark the level of the bucket's water inside the bucket. (To make a mark, use a crayon, Sharpie or a piece of vinyl tape).
  3. Mark the pool water level on the outside of the bucket.
  4. Make sure that your pool sweep doesn't spray water into the bucket during testing. Also, if you have a dog, make sure that they do not drink from the bucket.
  5. After 2-3 days mark the new water levels & compare the water loss in both pool and the bucket.

Results:

If the pool water loss is 0.5'' or more than the bucket evaporation, the pool may be leaking. Call us if you have any questions about the results of the test or if you need to make an appointment.
