FAQ

I'M NOT SURE IF I HAVE A LEAK. IS THERE A COST IF YOU DON'T FIND A LEAK?
Yes; please do a Bucket Evaporation Test (instructions here) to make sure you have a leak before we set up an appointment.

​HOW DO YOU TEST FOR LEAKS?
We are extremely thorough with our testing. We don't stop when we find a leak. We will test your entire system to ensure that there are no secondary leaks.
We use three methods to thoroughly test your pool/spa:
  • Pressure testing of all underground pool/spa plumbing (suction, returns, sweep and auto-fill)
  • Sonar testing of any leaking underground pipes to pin-point leak(s)*.
  • Underwater dye testing to locate any leaks in the pool/spa basin (skimmer, lights, bottom suction drain, pipe openings, cracks, etc). This part of the testing includes pressure-testing the bottom suction drain pipe as well. **
*With sonar testing, only one leak can be pinpointed in any given pipe (the loudest leak heard). Secondary leaks can only be found after repair of the initial leak is complete. Re-testing is included in our repair pricing. **For underwater testing the water must be clean and clear (can see the bottom and no algae). We can only dye-test the portion of your pool/spa that is underwater, so please have the pool filled to its normal level.​

I HAVE CRACKS IN MY POOL/SPA. WHAT CAN YOU TEST/REPAIR?
Not all cracks leak. We can dye-test the cracks to determine if any are leaking but the only permanent way to repair leaking crack is to resurface.

HOW LONG WILL THE TESTING TAKE?
In most cases, testing will take 1-4 hours (depending on how much plumbing there is to test and how many leaks you have).
We do not charge hourly, so the price quoted will not change due to how long the testing takes.

DOES ANYONE NEED TO BE HOME DURING THE TESTING?
No. Please notify us ahead of time if there are any gate codes or access instructions. We will need a working electrical outlet and access to the breaker box.

IS IT A PROBLEM IF MY POOL/SPA WATER IS GREEN OR CLOUDY?
 Yes, we cannot do the underwater dye-testing unless the water is clean and clear. If you cannot get it clear we can still test most of the plumbing (call for details).

THE WATER LEVEL IS LOW.  DOES MY POOL/SPA NEED TO BE FILLED?
Yes. We can only dye-test the portion of your pool/spa shell that is under water so please have it filled to the normal level.

DOES MY PUMP/FILTER NEED TO BE RUNNING?
 No, however the pool water must be clean & clear for dye-testing.

I HAVE A VINYL LINER POOL THAT LEAKS. WHAT CAN YOU TEST/REPAIR?
We can test & repair the plumbing as with any other type of pool. If your liner is old & deteriorating we recommend replacing it. If it is still in good shape and can be patched we will patch it but there are no guarantees on patching.

DOES THE INITIAL TESTING FEE INCLUDE ANY REPAIRS?
No, the survey fee is for leak detection only.

MY POOL IS EMPTY. CAN YOU STILL TEST IT?
Yes, we can still test the plumbing, however, we always recommend being thorough to prevent additional costs by choosing a full leak detection survey. Please note that after a partial leak detection, any return visits for additional testing will result in a full leak detection charge.
HOW DO I PAY?
We take a credit card at the time of scheduling to charge upon completion or you may pay your technician on site by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. Leak detection results are sent by email once payment is received.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
  • Have the pool/spa filled to the normal level and make sure the water is clean & clear.
  • Provide any necessary gate codes/keys if you cannot be onsite for the appointment.
  • Remove your pool/spa cover, if you have one.
  • Provide access to the pool equipment, a working electrical outlet, and the breaker box.
  • Ensure that no other contractors are on-site at the time of our testing (we rely on sonar to listen
  • underground).
  • Ensure humans & pets are secured inside or separate from the pool area.

WHY HAVEN'T I RECEIVED MY RESULTS YET?

Leak detection results are sent through email once payment is received. We try to get reports sent by the end of the day, but sometimes we need a little more time. If you haven't received your report within 2 business days from your leak detection, please call or email us.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE A REPAIR?
Leak detection results are good for 30 days, so we recommend calling us to schedule your repair as soon as possible. Once you let us know you'd like to move forward with a repair, we will send you an estimate and get you on the schedule.
